Gaming Committee to Vote on Resolution Urging Congress to Lift Ban on Sports Betting

 

WHAT: House Gaming Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. John Payne (R-Dauphin) announced the committee will hold a voting meeting to consider House Resolution 619, which would urge U.S. Congress to lift the federal ban on sports betting and to allow Pennsylvania – and all states that authorize, license and regulate casino gaming — to legalize sports betting through its licensed facilities.

 

Sports betting in the United States totals an estimated $400 billion per year, with only 1 percent taking place in legal form. Fantasy sports betting draws in an estimated 57 million participants.

 

WHO:  Payne, House Resolution 619 sponsor Rep. Rob Matzie (D-Allegheny/Beaver) and members of the House Gaming Oversight Committee.
