$130,611 in Grants Going to Local Career and Technical Centers,
Says Toepel

HARRISBURG – State Rep. Marcy Toepel (R-Montgomery) today announced that the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) has awarded $50,000 to Berks Career and Technical Center, $48,111 to North Montco Technical Career Center and $32,500 to Western Montgomery Career and Technical Center for the purchase of training equipment.

The schools are three of 32 career and technical centers and two school districts that were awarded a total of nearly $1.2 million in grants across the Commonwealth.

“Career and technical centers are finally starting to get the recognition they deserve for training thousands of students each year for well-paying careers in a multitude of industries,” said Toepel. “With increased interest in the educational opportunities provided by career and technical schools, comes the need for enhanced equipment. These grants will help ensure the most up-to-date equipment and technology are available to students.”

Specifically, the funding will be used to purchase equipment aligned with the needs of local employers for use in PDE-approved career and technical education programs and to provide hands-on training to students in those programs.

Under the program, the maximum grant is $50,000 and must be matched dollar-for-dollar from a local source, which could include local school funds or contributions from business and industry partners.

There are more than 80 career and technical centers in Pennsylvania that offer a combination of classes and hands-on learning to students in PDE-approved programs.
